Virus Cleaner is another Rogue Anti-Spyware program – a fake spyware remover. After infecting a user’s system, it proceeds to scare its victim into buying the “product” by displaying fake security messages, stating that your computer is infected with spyware and only Virus Cleaner can help you to remove it after you download the trial version.

Once inside and active, Virus Cleaner will flood the user with popups, supposedly to inform him of an infection or multiple infections present on the system. An example of such as popup is as follows:

  • Resident Shield Alert
  • Accessed file is infected
  • Threat detected!
  • File name: C:\WINDOWS\504052.exe
  • Threat name: Virus found Win32/Heur
  • Detected onopen.

Virus Cleaner also performs fake system scans, which produce greatly exaggerated or false results. In addition to all of this, it will also significantly decrease overall system performance.

Virus Cleaner is a scam and should be treated as such: do NOT download or buy it and block it’s homepage using your HOSTS file.
