Hide one or more drives of your Computer from appearing in Windows Explorer

If your computer have a lots of partitions, and you dont want to delete it but still want to hide its appearance from ‘My Computer’ then you can do that. Ya, its possible that you can hide your drive from appearing in windows explorer. For that you have to follow the methods. There are two ways to hide drive letters that appear in My Computer i.e. Registry Editor and Group Policy Editor.

Method 1: Via Registry Editor

Open Registry Editor (Start > Run > Regedit), Navigate to String: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer. Now create a New DWORD value and name it NoDrives. All Drive will be visible as long as the value will be 0. Set the value for NoDrives according to the following list:

Enter the decimal number corresponding to the drives you want to hide as the NoDrives value data. When you right click on NoDrives and choose Modify, make sure you select Decimal, not Hexadecimal. To Hide Multiple drives, Just add the drives values. For Example: We want to hide F: and G:, then NoDrives value should be 32 + 64 = 96.

Using the same decimal values, you can arrange for a different behavior that will leave a drive visible, while making it impossible for user to view the contents of the drive.

Method 2: Via group policy Editor (GPE)

Open group Policy Editor (Start > Run > gpedit.msc). Now go to user Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Explorer. Here in Right plane you will find “Hide these specified drives in My computer” and “Prevent Access to Drives from My Computer”.

Difference between “Hide these specified drives” and “Prevent Access”:

a.) Hide these specified drives: It will remove the Icon so the user would not able to see it.

b.) Prevent Access: It will allow user to see the drive icon, but will give error message when we tries to access it.

Under the Above settings i.e. “Hide these specified drives in My computer” and “Prevent Access to Drives from My Computer” when we click the radio button next to “Enable”, we will see several options. Choose the one you want to apply.
