Explorer displays a thumbnail of images and the first frame of the video when seen in thumbnail view Explorer can either cache when you access the folder OR retrieve from the Thumbnail Cache. Retrieving from the cache is faster as compared to creating new one but will consume lot of hard disk space.

Navigate to:
HCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advance

Set the DWORD value DisableThumbnailCache to 1 to disable the Thumbnail Cache
